Make This Year’s Tax Refund Work for You
It’s not too soon to start thinking about what to do with your refund from Uncle Sam. After all, the majority of us will receive one, with the average refund totaling $2,905, according to the Internal Revenue Service’s latest figures.
But to many taxpayers, a tax refund feels like lottery winnings and it just gets spent. Rather than spending your tax return, there are ways you can make the money work for you instead.
Here are a few ideas:
Save for retirement by investing your money into a traditional or Roth IRA. A Taleris member services representative can help you get started with an IRA with as little as $100.
Pay down credit card debt to avoid paying high interest rates. If you have to carry debt, you want to make sure you’re carrying the least interest accruing debt possible. Take your tax return money and pay off or pay down your high interest rate credit cards.
Use your tax return to open a Savings Account. You never know when extra money will come in handy. By opening or adding to a Taleris Savings or Money Market Account you will have the funds you need, when you need them and you won’t have to worry about using your interest bearing credit cards.
The bottom line is, you have an opportunity to make your tax return work for you. Take this annual opportunity to better yourself financially. You’ll be glad you did.
